Our School Spirit is the Holy Spirit-
Catch It!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO PARENTS:
Any quizzes or tests I give will be sent home and does not need to be signed and returned. The reason is so that there are less people handling the assessments. Parents must check Powerschool for their child's grades.
4th grade NYS ELA Exam is scheduled for 4/20, 4/21, and 4/22.
Supplies needed: marble notebook, a sturdy folder, highlighters, pen and silent reading book.
Current topic of study: reviewing different topics in reading to prepare for the state test.
………………………………………………………………………
Students will take a “Star” reading test four times this year. This test is completed on an IPad and each student will take this test individually so no distractions will occur. This result will guide the students in choosing the appropriate reading level of their silent reading book and see their improvements or areas they need to continue to work on. The students' current Star test was taken again on 1/25 and results were sent home with the students. An email was sent about this to all parents/guardians.
…………………………………………………………………………………
Students receive reading homework every night except Fridays and weekends. The daily homework is a reading assignment and/or spelling.
We will be focusing on the stragety of “Close Reading” and highlighting important information daily in our class.
Current Vocabulary/Spelling words:
Week of 2/22: there is no new vocabulary/spelling words. We will be focusing/reviewing different types that will help with understanding the NY ELA state test.
Spelling homework is as followed-
Mondays- write all words 3 times each in ELA notebook.
Tuesdays- pick 4 words and write a detailed sentence for each in ELA notebook.
Wednesdays- take Pretest and make corrections if needed. This is a great way for the students to study and see what they know.
Thursdays- Study.
Fridays -Spelling test.
*** When the students have a vocabulary test, there are no new spelling words given for that week.

An open line of communication between the teacher and parent/guardian is extremely important and welcomed. The best way for communication is to view your child's homework folder and homework book every night.
