Academic Programs

At Ss. Cyril and Methodius School we strive to teach as Jesus did in order to treat our children and all members of our school community with respect and compassion.  A caring, dedicated and fully certified faculty holding master's degrees in a variety of fields provide an excellent academic and religious education.  The SS. Cyril and Methodius faculty abides by Diocesan and New York State standards in all that it does.  Student participation in masses, prayer services, and parish events makes us a community where faith, integrity, and the gospel call to service are lived and celebrated every day.
As a Catholic school we are not preoccupied with New York State testing.
Although we take NYS mandated tests, we do not teach to the test,
we teach to the curriculum.

Standardized Testing

Iowa Test of Basic Skills
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) measures your child's strengths and weaknesses in the areas of reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, word analysis, listening, spelling, math concepts, math problem solving and math computation.  The ITBS is administered in September/October in grades 2-7.
Cognitive Abilities Test
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) measures students’ learned reasoning abilities in the three areas most linked to academic success in school: Verbal, Quantitative and Nonverbal. Although its primary goal is to assess students’ reasoning abilities, CogAT can also provide predicted achievement scores when administered with The Iowa Tests. The CogAT test is administered in October for grades 2-7 and in March for grade 1.
NYS English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Science Tests
We administer the NYS ELA and Math test in the 4th and 6th grades and the Science test in the 4th and 8th grades.  We utilize the tests results to assess a student's strengths and weaknesses in English Language Arts in order to help our students achieve their highest potential.
